Be Careful.....Restoring the old portrait that you see above
almost killed me!
The original portrait was rushed into our studio still wet from
water leaking into our client's basement. The beautiful, antique
oval frame with it's convex glass was filling with mold and
mildew. I acted immediately to save what remained of the original
image. Using compressed nitrogen (without my respirator!) to clean
the wet, moldy photograph was a big mistake. Four months of pneumonia
followed. Yes, I am much more careful now!
We can copy and restore almost any
photograph (and many documents) without harming or changing your
original art or photograph. All of our work is done by
hand so that we can work from photographs in albums, tintypes, glass
negatives, long panoramas, hand colored glass slides, and even precious
images that are stuck to broken glass. We often work with images
that have survived fire and smoke damage.
To restore a damaged photograph we first
make a new negative of the damaged image. Working from the new
negative our artists use the best tools, sometimes digital but usually
traditional, to bring the image back to life. You receive the
restored negative and the bright new image printed by hand on old style,
heavy weight, traditional portrait paper. We can save your family
history for the generations to come. Ask us about traditional
transparent oil tinting, archival custom framing, and custom sepia
toning.
